Hand Me Down Hearsays

This book is a collection of stories and photographs of the people and life of the villages in our benefice in times gone by.

Already the original print run has sold out, the first reprint has sold out, and we have placed printing orders for a further supply.

If you have not yet obtained your copy, and you would like one, then please contact Rev John Dawson.

Copies have been donated free of charge from our churches to the four Primary Schools in our Benefice so all children in our Benefice can experience some of our history and ways of life in times past.

All profits from the book are for our churches.

The Little Book of Poems

This book contains a selection of poems composed by our very own Jack. They vary from the humorous to the thought provoking, and all are works in Jack's own individual style. The book will be available in September and will cost £2.00, with all proceeds being donated by Jack to our church at Breedon. There will be only one print run, so don't delay, buy your copy straight away.

Book-Aid

As you know, periodically I ask for unused bibles and other Christian books to send overseas. Below are some details of what happens to these books, and the part we, in this benefice, play in supporting this venture.

In 2001, 12 containers, containing over 1,000,000 books and bibles, were dispatched to the following countries: Nigeria (7 containers), Ghana (2 containers), Guyana, Uganda, and Zambia. We, in this country, do not appreciate the value of what we are doing, and I will give just one example.

Worsening conditions in Zimbabwe meant that Scripture Union had completely exhausted their supplies and had no books to distribute and use in the schools and universities where they were working. Book-Aid sent over 100,000 books to help; this was an answer to the workers' prayers and greatly encouraged them further in their work.

Please let me have more books - they will not be wasted. As you can see from the above, they will all be used in a way that is helping to spread the Christian Gospel. Thank you to all those that have helped already and thank you in anticipation to those who respond to this appeal.

Research into Asthma

Doctors at the University of Leicester are carrying out a major research study into Exercise Induced Asthma and are asking children with asthma that is worse with exercise to come forward. The parents must be willing to accompany their children to the Leicester Children's Asthma Centre, Leicester Royal Infirmary on a number of occasions (maximum 5). Additional questionnaires will be filled in. All costs are covered.
